Social Discrimination: The main Evil in India

Recently there was an article about Human rights activists concerned about the lower strata of Hindu society, i.e., Dalits. It's truly shocking to know that even today this discrimination is prevalent. It brings a tear to many people's eyes that people are ill-treated, deprived and isolated from the normal society.

The point is: wipe out the "caste" distinction and stop it right now. Now . Everyone is same. Why ask silly & point-less questions like: "Ohh so you are a Brahmin?", "Are you from this caste?", bla bla bla..It's shocking to know that I have been living in USA for the past 2 years or so and still I have faced less discrimination in US than in our motherland. Is this what our country about? 21st century still cannot clear many minds in this developing country. When will people lose their brains from testicles and start using the real brain in their heads? When will the discrimination, nepotism, corruption and snobbish attitude give way to common-sense, logic, ethics, principles and honesty?

Education and a much more humane touch could be the only 2 solutions to sweep this Evil into non-existence.

Jai Hind if and only if:we act worthy as true Hindustanis.

  • A post after a long hiatus. Welcome back. :)

Couldn't agree with you more. It is a big evil. But I do not think it is something which will vanish in an instant. If you compare our generation to the previous one, you'll realize that we are definitely on the right track.

Though I find it a bit paradoxical when you say that "Jai Hind if and only if we act worthy as true Hindustanis". Aren't caste and religion essentially similar on a higher level?

  • education about what ? Do you realize teh discrimination is filtering down tot he lower castes ? I mean the people who are discriminating now were teh people who were discriminated against 20 years back. SO with each generation, a leevl reduces.

I think dalits will soon start discriminating against... i don't know trees. or animals pretty soon. It is OK. just the order of things.

In other words, i agree with Siddharth
